Dr. Austin Dennard is a board-certified OB-GYN, minimally invasive pelvic surgeon, and Fellow of The Menopause Society. After more than a decade caring for women through pregnancy, surgery, and every stage of gynecologic health, she is devoted to the years most of medicine overlooks: perimenopause and menopause.
Why women’s midlife health? Dr. Dennard kept running into a problem.
Women in their 40s and 50s were coming into her office exhausted, anxious, sleep deprived and simply not feeling like themselves. Yet, the current insurance-based system gave them a pamphlet and sent them away. Perimenopause and menopause aren’t a single complaint to solve in fifteen minutes; they touch hormones, heart, bones, brain, sleep, sexual health, mood, and long-term risk. Doing it well takes time, depth, and a physician who is fully present. So she built a practice that makes room for exactly that.
A sixth generation Texan, Dr. Dennard completed her undergraduate education at the University of Oklahoma and earned her medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Southwestern Medical Center followed by advanced training in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG) and a Fellow of The Menopause Society.
She’s also a mom of four, which means she gets it: the mental load, the “I don’t have time to feel this bad,” the wanting to be present for your family and your own life at the same time. Her whole model is built around women who are busy, smart, and done being dismissed.
Austin has also become a national voice for women’s health. She has spoken at the White House, before the U.S. Senate, at Georgetown University Law Center, and on stages across the country about women’s medical care and the right to make decisions about their own bodies.
